Me at age 17 during my summer milk delivery route.
About This Website
My name is John Clark Jr. and I am a third-generation Clark to have worked in the dairy industry on Mount Desert Island. I created this website to share the Maine milk bottles and memorabilia my father and I collected over the years, and to share the stories of other dairies on the Downeast coast.
My father, Jack Clark Sr., and my grandfather, Owen (O. J.) Clark were in the business of either delivering or processing milk from 1939 until our dairy closed in 1980. Read more about the history of the Clark dairies on the O. J. Clark and Son page and the Clark's SWH Dairy page.
As a young boy, I rode along on milk deliveries with my father. In the summer of 1975, I delivered milk on a route using a Chevy Blazer for my "milk truck". 1975 was the twilight years for many small dairies in Maine, our dairy closed in 1980 after 41 years.
