Russell

Bar Harbor

Paul Russell's father J. F. Russell moved from Philadelphia to run the farm for the Fox family. Later he bought the farm from the Foxs and dropped Fox Farm from the bill head. Walter, Howard and Paul bought their father out at some point and later Paul bought out the other brothers. Paul had lower than state standards of bacteria in his milk consistently, his daughter Pauline claimed that her fathers milk had lower bacteria than the standards for pasteurized milk. He was very conscious of cleanliness and sanitary methods such as cooling the milk quickly. The Russell Farm had Jerseys only – 25 to 30 head. They hired 3 men to work the farm in the summer, 2 in the winter.
